The SuperFas Ligand is recombinant human protein that is produced in human embryo kidney cells and kills Fas-sensitive cells at concentrations less than 1 ng/ml. The product is a 40kDa type II transmembrane protein belonging to the TNF family, and it is implicated in CTL-mediated killing, activation-induced cell death, creation of immune-privileged sites, and tissue homeostasis. Circulating the protein can be detected in serum of patients with melanoma and certain types of lymphoma.
