Blood Pressure Drug Found To Prevent Epilepsy After Brain Injury

A common blood pressure drug, Cozaar (losartan), has been found to prevent epilepsy and impede further brain damage caused by seizures in patients that already have epilepsy. It is estimated that between 10 to 25 percent of all epilepsy attacks are a direct result of serious head trauma. Seizures caused by epilepsy can create further brain damage and worsen current brain injuries.

NSTDA Discovers New Anti-Malaria Drug

Thailand’s state run National Science and Technology Development Agency, or NSTDA, has developed a new medication for malaria that will soon be tested in clinical trials. The medication, a chemical called P218, was designed to target the malarial enzyme and stop the disease’s DNA from replicating. Researchers have said that the drug can completely destroy malaria parasites, and it won’t be expensive for the country to manufacture.
