This research study by Thermo Fisher Scientific investigates the efficacy of POROS Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography (HIC) resins in purifying biologics, specifically monoclonal antibodies. The study found that these resins are a viable alternative to cation exchange resins for removing impurities and increasing productivity. The study's results showed complete XMuLV clearance and partial MMV clearance. It was suggested that MMV log reduction could be improved with further process optimization. The study also detailed the process for optimizing viral clearance in two monoclonal antibodies, mAb A and B, highlighting the role of a salt-free buffer in eluting MMV and XMuLV.
