Take a closer look at research aimed at enhancing the cryogenic freezing process of the mammalian CHO-K1 cell line using a controlled-rate liquid nitrogen freezer. Three viability assays were employed to evaluate the impact of different freezing rates on cell recovery after thawing. Controlled freezing resulted in better membrane integrity and metabolic activity compared to uncontrolled freezing. The study concluded that for the CHO-K1 cell line, controlled freezing was more effective and suggested an optimal freezing rate of 1°C/min.
