From 2D To Organ-On-A-Chip: Platforms Powering Modern Disease Models

Animal models no longer define the ceiling of disease research. The past decade has produced a toolkit spanning 2D cell cultures, 3D organoids, and organ-on-a-chip systems, and selecting among them requires more than familiarity with the technology. It requires understanding where each platform breaks down. Flat cell cultures remain workhorses for early-stage screening, but their inability to replicate tissue architecture limits translational relevance. Organoids restore some of that complexity, yet reproducibility and vascularization remain persistent challenges.
