By Elie Zakhem, Jae Jung, and Cameron Garland, RoosterBio and Lauren Torres, Jeremy Neidert, and Rachel Legmann, Repligen

Exosome therapeutics represent a promising and rapidly evolving field in biomedical research, which offers the potential for highly targeted treatments that can deliver therapeutic payloads directly to specific cells and tissues. As interest in this modality continues to grow within the biopharmaceutical industry, there is an increasing demand for scalable and efficient bioprocessing solutions to support their development and commercialization. One of the primary challenges in this area lies in the isolation of extracellular vesicles (EVs) from upstream cell culture processes. Traditional methods, such as ultracentrifugation, are commonly used for EV separation; however, they present significant limitations. These include poor scalability to commercial manufacturing volumes and suboptimal yield efficiencies, making them less suitable for large-scale production.
Discover more about a scalable and sterile approach for the effective separation of EVs from cell debris, proteins, and other contaminants present in the culture broth. This innovative filtration strategy not only enhances process scalability but also improves the efficiency and consistency of EV recovery.
