Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are a type of biotherapeutic protein that is used to treat various diseases. They are produced by a process called cell culture, in which cells are grown in a controlled environment. One of the challenges of mAb production is ensuring the quality of the product. This is because mAbs can undergo various modifications during production that can affect their safety and efficacy.

There are several methods for assessing the quality of mAbs, but they often involve complex and time-consuming procedures. A recent study by 908 Devices Inc. has demonstrated a new method for measuring key product quality attributes (PQAs) of mAbs directly from spent media using ZipChip capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry (CE-MS). This method is faster and simpler than traditional methods, making it a valuable tool for monitoring mAb quality during the bioprocess.
