Consistone Yeast Extract UF: Batch Versus Fed-Batch Processing

cell culture, medicine, medical, laboratory-GettyImages-1491010530

Improving CHO cell culture performance often requires balancing productivity with product quality. Findings from comparative batch and fed-batch evaluations demonstrate that supplementing cultures with an ultrafiltered yeast extract can enhance both cell growth and antibody production, delivering titer increases of up to 100% in batch processes and 20% in fed-batch workflows. Growth improvements of up to 40% were also observed, highlighting the potential to increase manufacturing output without adding process complexity. When used alongside common feeding strategies, the supplement supported stronger cell growth and higher IgG titers than alternative media conditions while maintaining desirable protein quality attributes. In addition to productivity gains, modest improvements in glycosylation profiles were observed without changes to charge variant profiles, suggesting a path toward enhanced performance without compromising critical quality characteristics.

See how nutrient supplementation strategies can influence both yield and quality in CHO-based bioprocessing.
