A leading Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) sought an all-in-one, GMP-ready mixing solution for their new facility, which specializes in viral vectors and vaccines. The challenge was equipping the facility for every production stage—upstream, downstream, and fill/finish—while simultaneously balancing cost, flexibility, and performance. The required mixers had to handle volumes from 50 to 1500 L, manage both shear-sensitive materials and hard-to-dissolve powders, and deliver reliable heating and cooling.

By implementing a versatile magnetic mixing system that supports a wide range of volumes (0.5 to 2500 L) and applications (low-shear to high-intensity), the CDMO was able to significantly streamline operations and reduce capital expenditures (CAPEX). They reduced the number of required mixing units from 17 to 13, gained greater operational flexibility, and lowered costs associated with training and inventory management. This approach highlights how selecting versatile equipment with integrated functionality and a scalable design can drive down facility costs and complexity.
