Simple and Improved E. coli Transformation Method

The Z-Competent E. coli Transformation Kit™ is an entirely new method to make competent E. coli cells for simple and highly efficient transformation. The new procedure completely eliminates the need for heat shock and other downstream procedures. For transformation simply mix DNA and cells, incubate on ice for 15-60 minutes and spread. That is all. Transformation efficiency can easily reach 108-109 with a variety of lab strains. Most lab strains responded well to this method. The best results were with XL10 Gold and DH5alpha strains, while BL21(DE3) gave relatively low efficiency.

Besides the no heat-shock requirement, the cells prepared with the new method also showed fast transformation kinetics during the ice incubation period. This is particularly useful for quick and simple transformation such as re-transformation of stock plasmids. Supplied reagents make it very easy to make your own Z-Competent cells. Just simply grow your preferred cells, wash, and resuspend with the supplied buffers. The cells are ready for transformation.

Please note that competent cells are not provided in this kit.
