West To Host Global Conference On Prefillable Syringe System Solutions

Innovations Provide Pharmaceutical and Biotech Companies with Safe, Effective Drug Delivery Systems

West, the global leader in innovative system and component solutions for injectable drug administration, will host "The Future of Prefillable Syringes" conference on October 20 and 21, 2010, in Scottsdale, Ariz. The conference will focus on the benefits of novel plastic prefillable syringe systems and issues associated with the packaging and delivery systems for biologic therapeutics.

A drug's safety and efficacy are impacted by its packaging and delivery system; choosing a packaging solution that ensures the stability of a drug and eases administration is a complex process. Potential interactions between closure systems, packaging materials and processing aids must be held to an absolute minimum or, preferably, eliminated.

Recent innovations in prefillable syringes have added a new and exciting aspect to the industry's growing need for improved systems that are break-resistant, minimize interaction with the drug product and provide options for use in self-administration devices such as auto-injectors. Syringes manufactured from Daikyo Crystal Zenith, a cyclic olefin polymer developed by Daikyo Seiko, Ltd., provide market-proven solutions for the safe, effective delivery of biologics.

"The Future of Prefillable Syringes" conference is being held at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa, and will offer commentary from experts on the science and technology of prefillable syringes.

The conference will feature a tour of West's Pharmaceutical Delivery Systems facility in Scottsdale, a key facility for manufacturing the Daikyo Crystal Zenith 1 mL Long Insert Needle prefillable syringe system. Attendees are also invited to attend a reception and dinner at the newly opened Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) in Phoenix.
