Veeco Metrology Group

Source: Digital Instruments, Veeco Metrology Group
As the world leader in Scanning Probe Microscopes (SPMs), Digital Instruments, Veeco Metrology Group enables scientists and engineers to image and explore nanoscale features and structures never seen before.

With OVER 3,000 installed, Digital Instruments SPMs (which include AFM, STM, MFM and other probe microscopies) continue to lead the SPM industry by a wide margin. Nanoscope and Dimension Series SPMs produce the highest resolution, lowest noise and most accurate data to give you the best images and measurements possible. No matter what your work area, we have a NanoScope or Dimension Series SPM that will provide you with the capabilities that you need to succeed in a virtually limitless range of applications.

Our SPMs produce the best results for the same reason that we sell more systems - superior, patented technology. These and other innovations are just a few examples of why our measurements are of the highest resolution, accuracy, repeatability and integrity:

  • Image soft and other difficult samples with TappingMode™ for far better detail than non-contact methods, and without the sample damage caused by contact methods.

  • Determine surface hardness and adhesion with PhaseImaging™ as well as composition variation.

As the original Scanning Probe Microscope (SPM), the Nanoscope Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) provides resolution unequaled by any other probe microscope for electrically conductive samples and is the SPM of choice for atomic resolution in electrochemical applications.

NANOSCOPE MULTIMODE™ SCANNING PROBE MICROSCOPE:
The Highest Resolution Full-Function SPM in the world. Proven in over 1000 installations for analysis of conductive and non-conductive samples, the Nanoscope Multimode Scanning Microscope is ideal for smaller samples where true atomic resolution and superior flexibility are required. This microscope allows an easy switch between contact, non-contact, Tapping-Mode, lateral force (friction), magnetic force and electric force techniques, as well as optional STM and electrochemistry adapters. Optional fluid cells, temperature and environmental controls are also available. Applications include biological science, electrochemistry and many other basic and applied research fields.

Each NanoScope system comes equipped with a probe microscope, the powerful Nanoscope Controller, dual-monitor computer system and 100 NanoProbe® tips (which typically lasts several months). In addition, Digital Instruments offers a wide range of accessories including a suite of the highest quality Nanoprobe® tips for virtually any application as well as an economical way to get started in Scanning Probe Microscopy – the Nanoscope E controller which combines affordability with Digital Instruments' proven quality, productivity and performance.

The BIOSCOPE™ SPM: Specifically Designed for Biological Analysis. The Bioscope incorporates an SPM with an inverted optical microscope specifically modified for stability and low noise. Adaptable for brightfield, fluorescence, phase contrast, Nomarski/DIC and other optical techniques, the BioScope provides an effective magnification range of 25 to 10,000,000X so you can image event the smallest biological structures. View your sample in air or in situ on a slide or petri dish with easy sample manipulation and little or no sample preparation –even view processes in real-time as they occur. Available with environmental controls and precision stages for micron-scale positioning.

DIMENSION SERIES SPMs: The World's Best Selling SPMs. The Dimension Series SPMs support every available SPM scanning and imaging technique for applications including materials science, thin films, metals, biomaterials/biotechnology, optics, plastics/polymers, cosmetics, paints and coatings, micromachined devices, microelectronics, geological/environmental studies, and many more. Now it is possible to analyze large or small samples in air or fluid with superior stability, linearity, resolution and image quality. One scanner covers all scan sizes from nanometers to 90mm. Built-in top-view video optics make locating areas of interest fast and easy, and provide real-time viewing. In addition, the TrackScan™ laser tracking system makes setup easy and tracks the scanning probe tip to enhance image and measurement quality.

DIMENSION 3100 SPM: Proven Performance and Versatility. Analyzes samples up to 200mm in diameter with manual or automated stepping for scanning multiple areas unattended. Its versatility, small footprint, and mid-range price make it the ideal multi-purpose SPM. Available as the DVD3100 AFM specifically for automated measurement of optical disks (CD/DVD).

DIMENSION 5000 SPM: Precision and Automation for Larger Samples, Provides larger sample capability and superior sample/stage positioning. Samples up to 200mm in diameter may be analyzed with automation for imaging anywhere on the sample (also available with 350mm rotary stage). Optical linear encoders position scans with the highest accuracy and precision, and Invar alloy construction ensures superior temperature and vibrational stability. Available with real-time pattern recognition and additional automation features.

DIMENSION LS Series SPMs. The LS Series enables long scanning measurements (up to 10mm line profiles) while retaining all of the capabilities of the Dimension Series SPMs. With its low noise performance and high resolution, the LS Series is ideal for developing and characterizing advanced materials and processes where ultra-high resolution is required but where the lateral feature size/measurement range is greater than 100mm. Use the LS to generate survey profiles, identify features for detailed examination and then quickly zoom in for detailed SPM scanning – all without changing instruments, scan hardware, or probe tip.
