Torrey Mesa Research Institute Selects BioDiscovery's GeneSight Software For Gene Expression Analysis Studies

MARINA DEL REY, CA -- (INTERNET WIRE) -- 08/28/01 -- BioDiscovery, Inc. a leading developer of software products for microarray research, and Torrey Mesa Research Institute (TMRI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Syngenta AG, announced today that they have selected a Site License of BioDiscovery's GeneSight(TM) software for the analysis of gene expression data generated by the institute.

"A site license for BioDiscovery's GeneSight(TM) was selected for our institute, based on our evaluation of the software. Our microarray facility produces a vast amount of expression data daily, and hosts one of the largest expression databases in agricultural genomics. We need a comprehensive statistical analysis tool that is easy to use and platform independent for our large-scale data analysis projects. We are pleased that GeneSight(TM) provides such a solution to our need," commented Dr. Tong Zhu, Principal Scientist who leads the microarray group.

"We are delighted that TMRI has chosen BioDiscovery's GeneSight(TM) software as their data analysis software solution. We are pleased that GeneSight's(TM) powerful gene expression analysis capabilities can assist TMRI in extracting value from the information that is generated by their microarray experiments. We are committed to offering our customers state-of-art software for microarray research and we are very pleased to have TMRI join the list of other companies who have chosen BioDiscovery for their microarray software solutions," said Dr. Soheil Shams, President of BioDiscovery.

Background on Torrey Mesa Research Institute:

The Torrey Mesa Research Institute is the genomics research center of Syngenta, a world leading agribusiness. Syngenta ranks first in crop protection, and third in the high value commercial seeds market. Profoma sales in 2000 were approximately US $6.9 billion. Syngenta employs more than 20,000 people in over 50 countries. The company is committed to sustainable agriculture through innovative research and technology. Formed in November 2000 by the merger of Novartis Agribusiness and Zeneca Agrochemicals, Syngenta is listed on the Swiss stock exchange, and the London, New York and Swedish stock exchanges.

Background on BioDiscovery:

BioDiscovery is the leader in complete, integrated microarray solutions. The company offers a suite of products that can be purchased together or independently:

ImaGene(TM) is the leading commercial microarray image processing and analysis tool for microarrays. ImaGene offers automatic image analysis and quantitation as well as advanced quality control measurement parameters.

GeneSight(TM) microarray gene expression, data-mining tool, facilitates array data analysis and GeneSight(TM) provides easy data import features, and employs robust statistical techniques coupled with user friendly, and powerful visualization tools.

CloneTracker(TM) manages the information associated with microarray fabrication and production. CloneTracker(TM) allows databasing and query of slides (arrays), plates, and clones. In addition to the powerful database capabilities, the user can also "virtually" design and visualize multiple arrays before a specific the array is fabricated. It is an indispensable tool for creating in-house arrays with a microarrayer from any manufacturer.
