Three Vital Steps To QMS Implementation

Implementing a quality management system (QMS) is often seen as a significant achievement for life sciences companies, but many struggle to fully integrate these systems into their operations. Although 85% of companies have acquired a QMS, only 29% have successfully implemented it across all of their facilities. This gap highlights challenges in digital transformation within the quality department, despite widespread recognition of its potential benefits. A survey of 152 quality professionals revealed that while many companies have adopted digital systems, 32% still face major issues due to manual and paper-based processes. Key quality processes, such as quality event management, remain only partially digital. Cost, time, and concerns over business disruptions are the primary barriers preventing full QMS adoption or expansion. Forty-six percent of respondents cited high costs, while 39% noted the time needed for employee training and transition as significant obstacles. However, these challenges can be mitigated with strategic planning and thoughtful implementation, allowing organizations to fully realize the potential of their QMS and achieve a strong return on investment.
