Since its start in 1984, Synrad has delivered more CO2 lasers to industry than any other manufacturer. Founded by Peter Laakmann, who pioneered the RF-excited CO2 laser, Synrad has come to be recognized as a leader in the development of sealed CO2 lasers and electro-optics technologies. Currently, over 20,000 Synrad lasers are in use worldwide, cutting, marking, drilling, and perforating a wide variety of materials.

Headquartered north of Seattle in Mukilteo, Washington, Synrad operates on a simple philosophy - to design and manufacture a range of high technology products that are easy to use, reliable, and affordable - thereby opening up new applications for sealed CO2 laser technology worldwide.

In 1998, Synrad was acquired by Excel Technology (NASDAQ: XLTC). A natural fit, Excel and its subsidiaries develop, manufacture, and market laser systems and electro-optical components for electronic, semiconductor, other industrial, scientific and medical applications.
