A cross-functional team at Sartorius has successfully used a novel scale conversion tool for transferring parameters in a bioreactor-size-independent way to predict the best set of cell culture parameters for single-use, stirred tank bioreactors from development through to manufacturing scale. They used these parameters in a proof-of-concept study to show it is possible to scale up a cell culture process from development scale (15 mL and 250 mL Ambr® bioreactors) to pilot and commercial scale (Biostat STR® bioreactors) without affecting the process or product quality.
