Rapid Translation System

The new RTS 500 Instrument is the first preparative-scale protein expression system that incorporates continuous-exchange cell-free technology (CECF). With CECF, waste products are continuously removed, and energy components continuously replenished. The instrument allows you to produce functional protein for over 24 hours.

With RTS, you can do transcription and translation in the same 1 ml reaction compartment. Because it is cell-free, you can express proteins that are toxic to cells, sensitive to proteolytic degradation, or exhibit solubility problems in bacterial expression systems. RTS routinely expresses up to 500 µg of protein in a single reaction, with such proteins as erythropoietin, plasminogen activator, p38 kinase and VEGF receptor.
