Proteome, Celera team up on genomics and proteomics
Plans to link Celera's Discovery System with Proteome's Entire Bioknowledge library
Proteome Inc. (Beverly, MA), which specializes in knowledge-based products for pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, has entered a collaboration with Celera Genomics (Rockville, MD) for merging information products. Proteome's BioKnowledge Library, which includes human, worm, and yeast annotation, will be linked and distributed through the Celera Discovery System. This linkage between the two databases will provide researchers with a new way to understand genes and protein functions.
Under the terms of the agreement, Proteome will license its entire BioKnowledge Library to Celera for distribution with the Celera Discovery System.
The collaboration aims at three goals:
- Providing Celera and Proteome customers with a comprehensive set of genomic and proteomic data.
- Combining Celera's structural and functional genomics information and Proteome's protein information to provide a new tool for understanding gene and protein function.
- Increasing the knowledge about cellular mechanisms, including those of diseases, providing a much better basis to build on for drug discovery.
The BioKnowledge Library is a collection of searchable Proteome Databases that capture the existing knowledge for the characterized and predicted proteins of specific organisms. Each database is updated weekly with new knowledge from the most recent literature. When the entire collection is used together, researchers have the ability to compare biological pathways and molecular interactions conserved between model organisms and humans.
