Meet Pierce Chemical Company . . .

A Leader in Chemistry Serving Life Scientists Worldwide

Innovative. Technically superior. Creative. Reliable. These are words researchers use to describe Pierce Chemical Company, a Rockford, Ill.-based firm with deep roots in protein chemistry technology. Providing researchers with a constant influx of new ideas and technologies, Pierce is a recognized world leader in providing products and solutions for Sample Preparation, Protein Chemistry, Affinity Chromatography, Immunology, Signal Transduction, Gas Chromatography and other areas.

Dr. Alan Pierce, a young entrepreneurial scientist known as an expert in the field of chemistry, founded Pierce in 1948. Under his direction, Pierce quickly became the first commercial producer of Ninhydrin, a chemical used in amino acid (protein) analysis. During its first 20 years, Pierce's product line grew to include aromatic fluorine compounds and organic silicon compounds used for electronics, formulated reagents for gas chromatography, and specialty chemicals. In 1965, the company entered the field of formulated reagents when it introduced Tri-Sil® Reagent, a chemical used in gas chromatography.

In the early 1970s, Pierce scientists began investigating ways in which they could apply their protein chemistry expertise to meet the rapidly growing needs of life science researchers. So began Pierce's transformation from manufacturing bulk chemicals to producing high-purity reagents for life science and biotechnology research. In 1983, Swedish holding company Perstorp AB acquired Pierce. The new parent provided Pierce with resources including significant plant and personnel expansion to research, develop and introduce significant new life science research products.

The year 1994 was especially significant for Pierce and its customers. Dedicated to quality, Pierce received ISO 9001 Certification of its quality management system from the highly respected and accredited registrar Det Norske Veritas (DNV). It was also the year Pierce introduced its Slide-A-Lyzer® Dialysis Cassettes, which revolutionized the way researchers perform dialysis.

The Pierce Product Catalog features more than 2,000 products including Antibodies, Lab Equipment, Cross-linking Reagents and other high-quality life science and analytical research products. Backing these tools are Pierce's helpful, knowledgeable Customer Service and Technical Assistance teams -- all just a quick phone call, fax or e-mail away.

The Pierce team, headed by Pierce President Robb Anderson, is dedicated to achieving 50 more years of steady growth through the introduction of innovative new products and solutions for life science researchers.
