White Paper: Performance Evaluation Of An Automated Bioreactor Sampling System For Mammalian Cell Cultivation

By Groton Biosystems

Two common goals of biotherapeutics development are reduction in timelines and increased process understanding. An automated bioreactor sampling system developed by Groton Biosystems has proven its capacity to address those two seemingly conflicting needs for the industry.

Due to the extreme length and stringent sterility requirement of mammalian cell cultivation, sampling automation of mammalian bioreactors remains an unmet need. In order to be successful and robust a system has to meet the following three requirements: First, it has to maintain sterility of the bioreactor for an extended period of time, up to 3 weeks for a fed-batch process. Second, it has to interface with various inprocess analytical instruments. Third, it has to maintain the fidelity of cell cultivation samples (e.g. no sample dilution, no loss of gas components during sample processing). In this poster we will present data to demonstrate that the automated bioreactor sampling system (ARS-M840) has fully met these requirements.
