New SMO To Deliver Diverse Patient Populations For Clinical Trials

Clinical Development & Administration, Inc. (ClinDev) is developing a nationwide, multi-specialty Site Management Organization (SMO) to accelerate the enrollment of sites in clinical trials and increase the diversity and availability of clinical trial patient populations.

The Chicago-based company has done preliminary work on the design of its SMO network by looking at the way others are presently approaching the SMO market, and concentrating on process engineering. "There is a real need in the marketplace for an SMO that delivers diverse patient populations in a reduced timeframe," says Alvin Cheeks, ClinDev's president and CEO.

ClinDev's SMO will operate six therapeutic networks: Oncology, Women's Health, Cardiology, Neuroscience, Infectious Disease, and Endocrinology. "Our model allows for a broad diversity of patient populations to be accessed in each therapeutic specialty," says Cheeks. "We are confident that we can both accelerate the process while expanding community participation."
