Napco/Precision Scientific

Through product development efforts and acquisitions, Precision and NAPCO have grown to a leading producer of high quality laboratory equipment with competitive pricing. Precision traces its heritage to the early 1900s when Dr. Royal Freas invented the first double wall insulated oven in 1907. He later founded the Thermo Electric Company which manufactured Bunsen burners and electric heating devices.

The Thermo Electric Company went on to design and manufacture the FREAS and THELCO brands of ovens in 1915. The FREAS brand was made with stainless steel and other high quality components with a high temperature range. The THELCO brand of ovens were also made from durable components to perform at a lower temperature range for general laboratory use.

In 1935, Precision Scientific – founded in 1917 as one of the first manufacturers of general laboratory equipment outside of Europe – acquired the Thermo Electric Company.

NAPCO was started in 1918 as the National Appliance Company and quickly gained a reputation for manufacturing high-quality, innovative constant temperature laboratory products.

National Appliance or NAPCO pioneered the water-jacketed CO2 incubator. NAPCO has historically been first with innovations for CO2 incubators that have become standard features.

In 1996, the Jouan Group of Companies purchased Precision and NAPCO and relocated the manufacturing facility from Chicago, Illinois to Winchester, Virginia. The Jouan Group is an international company that manufactures and markets high quality centrifuges for a variety of applications in the medical, research and industrial fields. Jouan brought extensive technical expertise to Precision as well as financial strength. The new manufacturing facility uses computer controlled manufacturing equipment and a cellular approach to production. This results in the production of high quality products. Over the years Precision and NAPCO have enjoyed a reputation for high value, quality laboratory equipment. The durability of Precision and NAPCO equipment is well known with some instruments made in the early 1900's still in operation.

Precision and NAPCO offer a complete range of laboratory equipment and a full range of services to support your needs: Sales and Marketing, Manufacturing, Logistics, Technical Support and Customer Service are all co-located in Winchester, VA – Providing quality and value with every Precision and NAPCO product delivered.
