Mixing Of Various Dry Powdered Media And Buffers With Entegris Flex Mixing System
Mixers are indispensable in both upstream and downstream bioprocessing, particularly for preparing media and buffers. Media, which provides nutrients for cell growth, is a crucial component of upstream processes. Buffers, used to maintain pH during downstream purification and formulation, are essential for preserving protein integrity. The varied densities and properties of media and buffer components can pose mixing challenges.
Media powders, often composed of low-density particles, tend to float on the liquid surface. Conversely, buffer salts, due to their higher density, tend to sink. To showcase the capabilities of the Entegris Flex Mixing System, a series of experiments were conducted. Various media and buffer solutions, including Dulbecco's Phosphate Buffered Saline (DPBS), Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM), and HyCell CHO media, were prepared by mixing appropriate powders with sterile water. The system's effectiveness in achieving complete and uniform mixing was evaluated and documented.
