Mirus Bio Bio-Expo Live June 2026: Upstream Bioprocess

Source: Mirus Bio

Scaling lentivirus production for large bioreactors creates a major upstream challenge: transfection complexes degrade too quickly to support efficient manufacturing at high volumes. When standard workflows require complex volumes equal to 5% of total culture volume, pumping delays at scales up to 2,000 liters can lead to rapid potency loss, uneven runs, and lower viral titers. A more practical path forward relies on chemical stabilization to stop particle growth and preserve functional performance for several hours. With a longer operating window, bioprocessors can reduce complex volumes to 2%, maintain transfection efficiency, and ease fluid handling at scale. Stabilization also opens the door to lowering GMP plasmid DNA input, helping cut raw material costs while smoothing the transition from benchtop development to commercial manufacturing.

Gain insight into strategies that improve scalability without compromising yield.
