Athens, GA – Meissner Corporation, a leading manufacturer of advanced microfiltration and therapeutic manufacturing systems for biopharmaceutical production of life-saving and life enhancing medicines, celebrated a double milestone in Athens-Clarke County: the ribbon cutting for its new X-ray irradiation services facility and the groundbreaking for Phase 2 of its Athens, Georgia, U.S.A., manufacturing campus.

The addition of Meissner’s X-ray services provides critical additional capacity for irradiation that is applicable to both Meissner products as well as other clients in need of this service. Integrating this capability expedites Meissner’s capacity to provide the shipment of irradiated, process-ready customer solutions to our base of pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturers.

Phase 2, marked by an official groundbreaking ceremony, will add manufacturing space to the Athens campus, expanding Meissner’s capabilities on the East Coast of the United States. The new space will complement the company’s headquarters manufacturing campus in Camarillo, California, U.S.A., and its manufacturing facility in Castlebar, Ireland, further strengthening our global supply network.

Christopher Meissner, CEO shared, “Our customers are asking for more sterilization capacity and more resilient supply chains, and Athens is how we deliver both impactfully. Adding X-ray irradiation and building out Phase 2 gives us the capability and the capacity to support life sciences customers across the East Coast and around the world. We are grateful to our partners in Athens-Clarke County and the State of Georgia, and to the people of Meissner who make this growth possible.”

Specific to the addition of Meissner’s X-ray irradiation capabilities: This project has been funded in whole or in part with Federal funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR); Center for Industrial Base Management and Supply Chain (IBMSC)/Defense Production Act Title III, under OT number #75A50123D00003.

Meissner Corporation’s Athens campus, located at 520 Meissner Avenue, was announced in 2023 as a $250 million investment. Meissner continues to hire for a broad range of quality, scientific, engineering and IT roles, and works with the University of Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology, Athens Technical College, and other surrounding education institutions on collaborative opportunities.
