Medicel Sampling Unit
Datasheet: Sampling Unit

Easy sampling with minimal manual intervention
The Sampling Unit enables automatic withdrawal and storage of liquid samples from laboratory scale bioreactors. Users can perform long cultivation experiments with little manual intervention. Samples are automatically collected to standard 15 ml or 50 ml plastic tubes. Collection of samples can be done with a pump or by using overpressure. Overpressure offers gentle sampling for mammalian cells. The pump can be used for rapid sampling of microbial cells. The Sampling Unit is optimized for small dead volumes.
Instant modification of samples
The temperature range of the cold bath allows the freezing of the samples, which stops biological processes. Samples can also be fixed by adding suitable chemicals into the sampling tubes prior to the withdrawal of the fermentation sample. For example, using cold methanol in the tubes allows the quenching of the metabolic reactions inside the cells. Samples can be later collected for the analysis of intracellular metabolites.
Rapid withdrawal of samples
Samples can be taken repeatedly at variable volumes, rates and time intervals. Different sequence logic can be used to perform various sampling experiments. The sequence logic can be set up in the Medicel Controlware application software. The samples are withdrawn by a separate pump connected to the Sampling Unit. The tubing line can be washed between two sample withdrawals with a suitable fluid e.g. alcohol, to avoid contamination.
Excellent for long cultivation experiments
Medicel Sampling Unit can be programmed for automatic sample withdrawal in long lasting cultivation experiments. The samples are stored into a carousel having 45 or alternatively 105 plastic tubes. The collected samples in the carousel are ready for further processing next morning or after a weekend.
