Lonza's Microbial Capabilities Expanded By New 2x 4,000L Microbial Fermentation Capacity

Changes in production scale often require technology transfer, creating potential challenges for maintaining process knowledge, continuity, and quality throughout development and manufacturing.
Lonza’s mid-scale microbial facility in Visp, Switzerland, offers an approach designed to support different production needs within an integrated manufacturing network. The facility features two 4,000 L fermenters that can operate independently or in parallel, providing a gross volume of 8,000 L, alongside a primary recovery train, two purification suites, and a dedicated column packing suite. Full automation and independent buffer delivery are integral to the facility’s design. The site forms part of a four-plant manufacturing network spanning scales from 70 L to 15,000 L, giving programs access to different production capacities as requirements evolve. Laboratory services and the option of dedicated facilities further expand the available support. Together, these capabilities offer a framework for managing microbial manufacturing across different stages of a program.
Consider the facility specifications to understand how its equipment, process areas, and supporting services fit within a broader development and manufacturing strategy.
