Life Technologies Licensing Proprietary Gateway Cloning Technology to Research Genetics
Life Technologies' commitment to assure availability of Gateway technology led to the establishment of other licensed suppliers, such as Research Genetics. The alliance with Research Genetics also provides a key component for the distribution of Entry Clones and Expression Clones containing Gateway Cloning Technology from a number of model organisms generated by strategic collaborations, such as the IMAGE consortium, the C. elegans ORFeome project, and others.

The Gateway Cloning System was developed in response to the growing need engendered by the genomics revolution for faster, more efficient ways to clone and express DNA sequences. Life Technologies has been granted U.S. Patent 5,888,732 for its Gateway Cloning Technology. Other U.S. and foreign patent applications covering this technology are pending. Based on the well-characterized phage lambda site-specific recombination system, Gateway Cloning Technology provides a highly efficient alternative to the two current conventional cloning and expression methods.
