ISO Certification For Biopharma's Nottingham Production Facility
Nottingham, UK - It's a great start to the New Year for Novozymes Biopharma. As part of its ongoing environmental legislative compliance, Biopharma's Nottingham based production facility has achieved ISO14001 certification – the globally recognized standard for Environmental Management for its Environmental Management System (EMS) from the British Standards Institute (BSI).
Time and effort well rewarded
Roger Freestone, Director of Engineering commented "This certification was achieved after around 18 months
work which was carried out under the direction of the Nottingham site's Environmental, Health and Safety
Steering Group to support compliance of the site's IPPC (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control) Permit. The
IPPC Permit is regulated by the UK Environment Agency.
Roger adds, "Our EMS is integrated into existing QA systems which are in place to support our cGMP compliance for the production of Recombumin®, recombinant human albumin. Both BSI and the UK Environment Agency were complimentary about the Training, the Maintenance and Calibration Management databases that are in use in Nottingham."
Cross site continuity and future ambitions
This certification brings the Nottingham facility in line with the majority of the other Novozymes production sites.
Objectives and targets have been identified as part of the EMS and to support these, an Environmental Forum has been set up at the production facility to address these targets.
Steve Garland, Novozymes Biopharma UK Ltd's Operations Director explains the scope of the achievement, "This is the culmination of a long period of sustained focus by all employees working at the manufacturing site. Proving that the Environmental Management System meets the exacting standards set by ISO is a significant accomplishment and everyone should be very proud of the achievement."
