How Can The GS Effex® Cell Line Increase The Potency Of Therapeutic Antibodies?

Source: Lonza

Antibody effector function can play an important role in therapeutic performance, particularly for molecules where enhanced antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) is desired. In this video, Dr. Peter O'Callaghan, Senior Director and Head of Expression System Sciences, Licensing, explains how Lonza's GS Effex® cell line is designed to support the production of antibodies with enhanced effector function.

Derived from Lonza's established CHO GS knockout platform, GS Effex® incorporates a FUT8 knockout to enable production of afucosylated antibodies. Reduced fucosylation can strengthen interactions between the antibody Fc region and Fc-gamma receptors on effector cells, driving an increased ADCC response.

The video also shows how GS Effex® integrates into Lonza's broader GS Gene Expression System®, letting customers use the same expression vectors, GS piggyBac® transposase technology, and media while incorporating the cell line into existing workflows. Dr. O'Callaghan discusses options for accessing the technology through research licensing or Lonza's development and manufacturing services.
