Genomica Unveils New Discovery Manager Software at Genome Tri-Conference
"Discovery Manager 2.2.1 represents the culmination of more than a decade of research and development to provide extensive visualization and scientific analysis tools, project management and a comprehensive database of genetic information to support genomics," said Thomas G. Marr, founder and president of Genomica. "This latest release provides the foundation upon which enormous data sets may be visually represented, analyzed and shaped into drug discovery knowledge that can be shared securely by collaborators around the globe."
Discovery Manager provides a combination of tools are used to transform raw data into drug discovery knowledge. There are six principal sets of tools:
- Clinical tools are used to set up studies and define variables to examine hereditary and environmental data in subject populations, with simple editing, clustering, and querying.
- Epidemiology tools facilitate integration and data management of subject data with associated phenotype and genotype information.
- Genetics tools facilitate data sorting by family, population, or case/control basis. Discovery Manager supports tools for linkage analysis, association studies, and disequilibrium testing.
- Pharmacogenomics tools are used to stratify populations and incorporate allelic viewing while displaying phenotypes.
- Physical mapping tools are used to construct and compare maps based on contigs, probes and clones, and compare these to radiation hybrid maps or genetic maps to verify marker order and content.
- Sequence analysis tools are used to predict gene product function, align multiple sequences, or search for exons all with the powerful "Conditional Pipeline" analysis automation tool.
New Features in Discovery Manager 2.2.1
In addition to performance improvements for handling massive data sets, the latest release of Discovery Manager enhances the existing genetic analysis functionality through its support for twin representation and the ability to query genotype data. Using criteria such as allele values, genotype source, or assay data, users can design queries for quality assurance and extracting subjects with particular genotypes from their database.
Conference Poster
Presenting at the 7th Annual Human Genome Project conference will be Genomica staff scientist Louise Carr Baskin. Her poster, "High- throughput Analysis of Preliminary Genomic Sequence Data Using the Discovery Manager Software Suite from Genomica Corp." will describe how the workflow proposed by Kuehl et al. (Gen. Res. 9:189-194 1999) can be implemented in an efficient, secure, and flexible manner using Discovery Manager.
About Genomica
Privately held Genomica's software combines clinical, epidemiology, genetic, and molecular biology applications into a single package enabling the acceleration of genetic discovery and pharmacogenomics. Genomica's software mine genomics information and accelerate time to market for new drugs. The company was founded in 1995 by Thomas G. Marr, who also serves as chief scientist, to commercialize the tools he and his team developed at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York.
