Genetics Institute Licenses Pangea EST Clustering Tools

Genetics Institute, Inc. (GI), a research unit of Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories, has licensed proprietary scientific computational tools from Pangea Systems, Inc. for use in its genomics efforts. Pangea's bioinformatics tools allow clustering and alignment of Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) and full length genetic sequences, as well as the ability to integrate data from public and proprietary databases.

"GI has developed a leading position in human genomics based drug discovery through their proprietary gene isolation and gene expression monitoring technologies," said Dr. Gordon Wong, GI's senior director of research. "Reducing the complexity and redundancy inherent in large EST databases will increase the efficiencies of these technologies and their effectiveness in drug discovery," he added.
