Data-mining software tracks proteomic data throughout drug discovery process

Genomic Solutions Inc. (Ann Arbor, MI) has launched a new proteomics software program, Protein Warehouse. The program enables scientists to track a protein through the drug discovery process, and to perform automated database searches of all data generated in the proteomic pathway. Genomic Solutions is currently installing Protein Warehouse at four early access sites. The product will be widely available by the first quarter of 2001.

Protein Warehouse tracks data from all experimental protocols down to the protein feature level. 2-D gel image and corresponding protein feature data are imported simultaneously, and. sample entry data tools enable the user to track the samples and corresponding users, gels, instrumentation, and data.

The software, built for data-mining purposes, is designed to help expedite analysis, reporting, and troubleshooting. "Protein Warehouse uses an SQL engine as its core database," Genomic Solutions global product manager David Miller explained in a company press release. "The application integrates data collection, central storage, querying and reporting into one environment. Its multi-user, multi-project environment is intended to speed data entry and ensure data integrity."

Genomic Solutions Inc. designs, develops, manufactures, markets, and sells instruments, software, consumables, and services used to determine the activity level of genes and to isolate, identify, and characterize proteins.
