Single-use components made with injection molding will almost always outperform compared to those made on a 3D printer. During Bioprocess Online Live "The Risk And Reality Of 3D Printed Parts In Single-Use Workflows," panelist James Dean Vogel of The BioProcess Institute said he's often seen suppliers produce a first-version part using a 3D printer before creating the mold. Likewise, it makes sense that the end user would take on that first step of prototyping before handing it over to a supplier for production at scale, he said.
