Bottom Samplers
The Snapper has a long threaded post with a strong compression spring surrounding it which presses against the jaws at one end and is seated inside a cap at its upper end. By turning the threaded cap, spring-tension adjustment is effected on the closing jaws which are easily cocked open by the attached foot-trip assembly. The post may be fastened to a long, hand-held rod for shallow-water use, to a sounding weight for intermediate-water sampling or to a lowering line for free-fall to the bed of a lake, estuary, reservoir, etc. Upon impact with the bottom, the foot-trip is pushed up, disengaging the pivoted locking arm and allowing the spring-tensioned, hinged jaws to snap shut.
