Nestled in Kaisei, Kanagawa Prefecture, just outside Tokyo, lies Fujifilm's Advanced Research Laboratories - a hub for groundbreaking research and development. Established as a collaborative space, it brings together diverse research teams. From the Bioscience and Engineering Laboratory (BSEL) delving into biology to the Process Engineering & Technology Center (PETC) optimizing manufacturing processes, the labs leverage a wealth of expertise. Here, researchers with backgrounds in imaging, materials science, and life sciences combine their knowledge to create innovative solutions for the future. This vibrant atmosphere fosters knowledge sharing across disciplines, tackling complex challenges with fresh perspectives.

BSEL spearheads Fujifilm's biomedical endeavors. By leveraging the company's longstanding expertise, they push boundaries in protein manufacturing, gene therapy, cell therapy, and regenerative medicine. Their work focuses on improving mass production of biopharmaceuticals, aiming to accelerate commercialization and deliver these novel therapies to patients worldwide.

This article showcases two ongoing projects at Kaisei, exemplifying the lab's diverse research efforts. Both initiatives share a common thread: optimizing biopharmaceutical manufacturing by intensifying processes for greater efficiency and cost reduction.
