BioPick

The BioPick automated colony picking system was designed to provide a complete, walk-away solution in benchtop format. This was accomplished by adopting an original 3 dimensional approach, which allows higher capacity and more features within a given area than would be possible using conventional robotics.

The heart of the system is the unique picking arm, which is capable of rapid 3-dimensional movement, and consistent, pinpoint accuracy. The system's CCD camera is fixed – it's the source plate that moves - which maximises fidelity of colony imaging and permits a very high degree of discrimination in colony selection. The innovative turntable design brings each destination microplate in turn to the picking area.

The BioPick automated colony picking system is much more than just a picker. It is the only robot available that includes removal/replacement of microplate lids and filling of microplate wells with culture medium prior to picking. It also has the most comprehensive needle-cleaning system available, with both an ethanol wash bath and direct heat sterilisation. A flow-through design ensures that fresh ethanol is used for each wash.
