BASF is all set to present a variety of solutions from a single source at this year's Convention on Pharmaceutical Ingredients (CPhI) in Brussels from December 7 - 9, 2004. Three operating divisions - Intermediates, Inorganics and Fine Chemicals - will show visitors to stand 5240 in Hall 5 the solutions they use to successfully support their customers' projects.

The Intermediates division supplies a wide range of top quality elements, reagents, solvents and protecting groups for chemical synthesis. The range includes an extensive portfolio of chiral amines, alcohols, epoxides and acids (ChiProsTM). BASF uses asymmetric hydrogenation in addition to biocatalysis in the manufacture of chiral intermediates. BASF recently stepped up its asymmetric hydrogenation activities by signing a deal with its new partner Solvias AG, Basel.

BASF also has one of the most extensive technology platforms for manufacturing achiral specialties for the chemical and life science industries. The product range includes specialty amines and heterocycles. BASF supports its customers' new developments by providing project support from lab scale to industrial scale. The company also offers a comprehensive package of services, including regulatory support and special logistics solutions.

BASF will also be presenting its range of ionic liquids, marketed under the brand name BASIONICSTM. BASILTM, the first industrial-scale ionic liquid technology, won this year's BASF Innovation Award and the Innovation for Growth Award sponsored by the trade journal European Chemical News.

The Inorganics operating division is the world's top supplier of a broad portfolio of chemicals for use in numerous applications, for example as building blocks of synthesis, process chemicals and catalysts, with a strong focus on boron specialties for selective reductions, hydroboration and Suzuki coupling, hydroxylamine and its derivatives, alcoholates, other strong bases, and alkali metals.

BASF's New Business Development experts are continuously working to expand the company's chemicals portfolio in response to careful study of customers' needs. One example is the launch of hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid, a hydroxylamine derivative that is suitable for use as an aminating reagent in organic synthesis, among other applications.
