Aptagen Joins Epa's Landfill Methane Outreach Program
Aptagen's enrollment in the program comes as a result of the company's announcement that it had successfully converted methane gas directly into protein, a process that has the potential to drastically increase the nutritional value of consumable food for fish, livestock and even humans. LMOP's goal is to educate the public about the potential positive uses of methane gas, such as a source of energy for electricity or heat, as well as supporting efforts that will accelerate the realization of those options.
"Aptagen's new membership in the Landfill Methane Outreach Program is greatly beneficial for both Aptagen and the EPA. LMOP is a strong supporter of any innovative research that can help to constructively use landfill waste and methane gas, and we are very happy to be teaming up with them with the hopes of turning Aptagen's science into a real-world process with both commercial and humanitarian applications", said Benjamin Rudolph, Director of Public Relations at Aptagen and Aptagen's LMOP co-ordinator.
The Landfill Methane Outreach Program is a voluntary EPA program that helps communities develop cost-effective landfill gas-to-energy projects. In addition to working at the local level, the LMOP partners with utilities, states, the landfill gas industry, tribes and trade associations to promote the use of landfill gas. LMOP can be visited on-line at http://www.epa.gov/lmop.
Aptagen is a gene and protein bio-engineering company transforming scientific discoveries into commercially viable protein products in the medical, agricultural and chemical industries. Emerging as the leader in DNA engineering technologies, Aptagen has the tools to substantially improve or alter protein function, making drugs safer through reduced side effects and increased efficacy, while simultaneously maximizing expression yield for commercial scale manufacturing. Through Aptagen's Gene Forge codon optimization and custom gene synthesis platform, protein expression can be increased up to ten-fold, decreasing commercial manufacturing costs by 60% or more and accelerating the commercialization of the Human Genome Project.
