Applied Imaging Launches New CytoVision Systems
Applied Imaging Corp. has launched three new imaging systems under its CytoVision genetic analysis product umbrella. The new products, known as CytoVision, CV ChromoFluor and CV ChromoScan, utilize Windows NT for the automated analysis of chromosome preparations and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) studies.
Jack Goldstein, president and CEO of Applied Imaging, noted that the products have been designed for use in a wise range of laboratories including those performing standard cytogenetic analyses and those engaged in advanced research on genetic abnormalities and cancer.

Applied Imaging's CytoVision products automate analysis of chromosome preparations and FISH studies
CV ChromoScan is an integrated scanning microscopy system that automatically scans prepared microscope slides for cells whose genetic or structural characteristics are of interest. The system allows the researcher to define the types of cells to be identified and then automatically captures images meeting those criteria (without operator intervention) and presents them for review and characterization. Common applications requiring this capability include: the genetic analysis of complex cancers with low mitotic indices and the examination of samples with large numbers of fluorescent DNA probe signals, as in the case of interphase FISH studies.
CV ChromoFluor is capable of performing a comprehensive suite of cytogenetic and research analyses including standard chromosome analysis, FISH studies and color chromosome analysis. The system provides automatic control of optical filter changing and microscope focus parameters, allowing for the rapid development of composite images showing DNA probe signals in multiple optical planes. CV ChromoFluor also analyzes the results of color chromosome banding studies performed using Applied Imaging's DNA probe system, RxFISH.
The CytoVision system is the primary genetics workstation developed by the company offering laboratories the capability to perform standard cytogenetic and FISH procedures.
