To enhance the speed and efficiency of visual inspection for liquid diluents—an essential step in vaccine manufacturing—JHS Life Sciences turned to automation. After consulting with a key client to better align with partner needs, JHS implemented the Seidenader CS-40 Automated Visual Inspection (AVI) unit. This state-of-the-art system uses high-performance vision technology to detect particles and other defects in liquid-filled vials.

The results were substantial. The AVI unit enabled JHS to increase its inspection speed from approximately 100 vials per minute to 400 vials per minute, effectively quadrupling throughput. At full operational capacity, the system can handle up to 20 million vials annually.

Beyond speed, the AVI’s high-resolution detection and imaging technology provides precise defect identification, supporting quality assurance at scale. Human inspectors still play a key role: experienced operators at JHS fine-tune the system for specific product types, ensuring it identifies defects effectively and makes accurate, automated decisions.

This blend of advanced automation and human expertise delivers a significant improvement in operational performance and product quality. JHS now offers this AVI-based inspection service to customers who require advanced, scalable, and fully optimized inspection capabilities for a range of clear or opaque fill-finish therapeutics.
