Media Development And Optimization

Source: Irvine Scientific

In addition to our high-performing platform basal and feed media, Irvine Scientific offers a Media Development and Optimization™ (MDO) program designed to meet our customers' unique requirements. Irvine Scientific strives to offer best-in-class performance, development time, production turnaround time, and open communication.

Each MDO project includes personal service, a high level of technical support, and step-by-step question-resolution while the customer's medium is being optimized. Irvine Scientific’s MDO program is designed to meet our customers' specific and unique requirements by offering the following 3 levels of service that are designed to be flexible and expedite the media development process: Level 1—Remote Development

Remote development is managed by the customer and a range of materials and services is provided by Irvine Scientific (each designed to support each individual lab's media development needs). These material and services can be applied individually or in a combined fashion to help labs achieve their media development goals using their own approach, and can include:

  • CHO Media Development Kit, which is made up of 4 diverse animal-component-free, chemically-defined growth media, and can be used for screening media.
  • Express Media Service™, which is used to provide prototypes within 10 business days.
  • Media Screening Service, which uses our extensive library of media and can consist of catalog products, GMP-ready products, or R&D prototypes.

Level 2—Remote Development, Managed by Irvine Scientific
Remote media development managed by Irvine Scientific provides more guidance and support than level 1, and is ideal if a customer is unable to transfer the cells to us. At this level, Irvine Scientific can help achieve the media needed by conducting a remote project in which we provide protocols, instructions, and materials necessary for our customers to perform the cell culture experiments in their own laboratory. This approach provides the same valuable scientific guidance of Irvine Scientific’s experienced staff that level 3 does, while allowing customers to control the speed of the development. Irvine Scientific designs the experiments, analyzes the results, and manages the timeline.

Level 3—Full-Service Media Development
In a full-service media development project, the entire media development project is conducted in Irvine Scientific’s laboratories. At this level, we are able to deliver the most improvement and in a shorter amount of time than level 2, since we perform all of the work in-house. Once we receive a customer's cell line, Irvine Scientific performs all of the work necessary to discover the optimal medium for our customers' process. Beginning with either a customer-owned formula or Irvine Scientific’s broad library of media formulas, we develop growth and/or feed media strategy designed explicitly to meet each customer's specific process constraints (such as titer, viable cell density, growth rate, viability, integral of viable cell density, cell specific productivity, product quality, sialylation, animal-component-free, chemically-defined, etc.).
