ISPE Announces Recipients Of 2014 International Honor Awards At Global Annual Meeting

ISPE announced the recipients of the 2014 International Honor Awards at the Society’s Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV, USA on 12 – 15 October. Recognizing the awardees’ contributions to ISPE and the pharmaceutical industry, ISPE President and CEO, John E. Bournas presented the honors on behalf of the ISPE Board of Directors.

“The 2014 International Honor Award winners exemplify the mission of ISPE and its commitment to pharmaceutical manufacturing and patient safety,” said Bournas. “Each recipient is dedicated to the sustainability of ISPE and to defining and sharing best practices in manufacturing, quality and compliance throughout the entire product lifecycle. We are grateful for their contributions to the society and the industry as a whole.”

The 2014 award winners are:

  • Nancy S. Berg, former ISPE President and CEO, was presented the Joseph X. Phillips Professional Achievement Award and recognized as an individual who has made a significant contribution to the pharmaceutical industry, not just ISPE. This award is given to recognize the extraordinary contributions of its recipients and named in honor of Joe Phillips-- a leader in establishing the Society as an “integrator” of industry and regulators both during his years of service with the FDA and later when he became International Regulatory Affairs Advisor to ISPE
  • Michael Rutherford of Eli Lilly & Co. was awarded the Max Seales Yonker Member of the Year Award, which recognizes a member who has made significant contributions to ISPE in the past 12 months. It is named in honor of a dynamic woman who contributed to the Society in many different ways and served as a source of inspiration during her battle with cancer.
  • Arthur (Randy) Perez, PhD, of Pfizer was honored with the Richard B. Purdy Distinguished Achievement Award in recognition of his years of dedicated service to ISPE. The award is named after one of the Society’s founders and most accomplished Presidents.
  • The ISPE Process Validation Statistics Conference Team was named Committee of the Year. The committee is led by Chair Joanne Barrick, Advisor, Global Validation at Eli Lilly and Co. and Co-Chair Jenn Walsh, Associate Director Technical Services at Bristol-Myers Squibb.
  • The ISPE Carolina-South Atlantic Chapter and ISPE Nordic Affiliate were recognized with the Affiliate and Chapter Excellence Award for its outstanding work in membership development and services, management, industry and society support and innovation.
  • Genentech (A Member of the Roche Group) was named Company of the Year recognizing the outstanding support provided by the company as reflected in commitment to the mission of the organization as well as through company employees’ significant active participation in the Society’s committees, councils, task teams, COPs, programs and activities.
  • Nissan Cohen and Shlomo Sackstein were awarded the Roger F. Sherwood Article of the Year Award for their article, “Chemical and Media-Free Pretreatment for Biopharma RO – Electrolysis for Scale Precipitation and UV Dechlorination,” published in the July/August 2014 issue of Pharmaceutical Engineering Magazine.
