GeneHound, a gene search and identification tool, is based on calculating the rate of change from one base pair to the next in a polynucleotide sequence

GeneHound, a gene search and identification tool, is based on calculating the rate of change from one base pair to the next in a polynucleotide sequence and then statistically processing the rate of change data to query a sequence's genetic relevance.

This enables the scientist to identify the location of the gene as a first step in the characterization of the gene. Examples of the genetic information to be identified include the number of protein encoding regions within the polynucleotide sequence, the location of a particular protein encoding region, and a reading frame for a protein encoding sequence with the polynucleotide sequence.
