Cholera toxin B subunit (CTB) conjugates are used for track tracing in nuerological research. The B subunit binds to GM1 gangliosides on the surface of neurons and is transported retrogradely. CTB is visualized through the conjugated chemical horseradish peroxidase, fluorescein, rhodamine, gold or biotin. Saporin conjugated to B subunit may be used to selectively destroy linked nerve cells.
