ALEXIS Biochemicals now offers a full panel of specific, well-characterized mouse monoclonal antibodies (including Clones 2D4, 33/1, 33/2, 1/36 and 3G10) which recognize different epitopes of cathepsin L and procathepsin L. Also available are human cathepsin L, inhibitors like Mu-Phe-hPhe-FMK and 1-Naphthalenylsulfonyl-Ile-Trp-CHO, and substrates for cathepsin L and a newly introduced ELISA kit for the specific detection of cathepsin L in human serum, plasma and other biological fluids.

Cathepsin L is a lysosomal endopeptidase belonging to the papain family of the closely related cysteine proteases superfamily. The enzyme is thought to be involved in a variety of disorders in which the pathological destruction of the extracellular matrix is one of the main characteristics. Such disorders include rheumatoid arthritis as well as tumor invasion and metastasis.
