Bioreactor Glucose And Lactate Levels Are Accurately Measured Across Different Instruments
Measuring glucose and lactate levels during bioreactor expansion can be used as an orthogonal method for assessing cell growth and optimizing feed protocols. While the Nova BioProfi le FLEX® analyzer is standard in traditional biopharma manufacturing settings, it is not yet standard in cell therapy facilities. To that end, we compared standard nutrient and metabolite analytics to small-form factor equipment and found the new equipment can be a portable low-cost solution that provides a high level of comparability to the standard instrumentation.
A set of Nova bioanalyzer controls diluted in PBS were run on each instrument and handheld meter to compare the calculated concentration to the actual value produced by the instrument. Human mesenchymal stem cells were expanded in Mobius® CellReady 3L bioreactors and samples processed on each of the instruments to determine if the meters and instruments were able to reliably and accurately track glucose and lactate levels throughout the run.
