Banishing The Mysteries Of Evaporation
By Dr Induka Abeysena and Rob Darrington BSc, Genevac Ltd
A variety of sample concentration and evaporation methods are used in laboratories. This article will describe the basic theories of evaporation and concentration, and some of the commonly used techniques. This information will give a better understanding of these methods and how they work at a practical level and through this enable users to truly optimise their solvent removal process. Part 2 will concentrate on the benefits of a cold trap and the effects of pressure control and how it can be applied to speed up evaporation and prevent sample loss due to sublimation.
